Royal Rumble 2018 Predictions!!!

On Sunday night The WWE brings the first Pay Per View of the new year with The Royal Rumble.  The Road to Wrestlemania starts always at The Royal Rumble.  Here is the card and my predictions of the night.

  1. Raw Tag Team Championship Match: Seth Rollins and Jason Jordan (c) vs. Sheamus and Cesaro : I can’t see Rollins/Jordan keeping their titles that much longer and I think Sheamus/Cesaro are a better team : The Winner = New Champs Sheamus/Cesaro
  2. Smackdown Tag Team Championship 2-out-of-3 Falls Match: The Usos (c) vs. Chad Gable and Shelton Benjamin : Time for a change, and time for NEW champions : The Winner = New Champs with Gable/Benjamin
  3. WWE Championship Handicap Match: AJ Styles (c) vs. Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn : I’m a big Kevin Owens fan and it’s time he gains The World Heavyweight Title to his list of titles held. With Owens/Zayn as co-holders of the title, it would be fun time on Smackdown Live. Winner : New Heavyweight Champion Kevin Owens.
  4.  WWE Universal Championship Triple Threat Match: Brock Lesnar (c) vs. Braun Strowman vs. Kane : Even though, WWE is pushing Strowman as a monster, I still see The Beast to best The Monster at the rumble. Kane is just thrown into the mix, but he needs to go back and run for mayor. Winner = The Beast Brock Lesnar
  5. Men’s Royal Rumble Match : With Roman Reigns losing his Intercontinental title last week, this will lead to another Rumble win for Reigns. Rumors have been around for awhile that a Lesnar Vs. Reigns match is set for Mania 34.  If Reigns does not win then i’m going to go with Nakamura. Winner = Roman Reigns!
  6. Women’s Royal Rumble Match : I’m looking forward to this match a lot as  it takes the woman’s division to the next level. Now with who will win ….My brain says Asuka should win , as she is super over in the wwe. My guy says that former UFC champion Rhonda Rousey will win, with Mania coming and Rousey winning this will give The WWE a lot of media attention.  Winner = Rhonda Rousey !

RAW 25 Review : A Tale Of Two Shows !!!

Monday Night Raw’s twenty fifth anniversary show was a show that wanted to be old school and also the new generation, but ended up a hodgepodge of both.

The show aired from The Manhattan Center which featured the old school wrestlers , and The Barclays Center which featured the new generation of wrestlers.

The show started out with the promising return of Vince Mcmahon and Stone Cold Steve Austin at The Barclays Center. The beginning of the show should have started at The Manhattan Center, as that was the venue where it all began twenty five years ago.

After the opening viewers were treated to action mostly from The Barclays Center and not too much from the much heralded Manhattan Center. There was really no reason but greed, for the WWE to have the show from two venues, if they were just going to use The Manhattan Center for a Undertaker and DX promo and a few throw away matches.

The WWE should have just used The Manhattan Center for the whole Raw, with JR and The King on the announce team and Howard Finkel as the ring announcer, then it would be a truly memorable event with a old school feel.

The problem  I had with the show, was the lack of interaction between the new and the old school wrestlers. The WWE should have had Steve Austin as the special Raw GM for the night, with a DX takeover during the night. The WWE had so many missed opportunities that could have been unfortunately.   They could have had a the new age outlaws vs The Bar or something that would have had the old school vs the new generation of RAW. Just a lot of missed opportunities with the show.  Hopefully WWE steps it up with the upcoming Royal Rumble on Sunday night. !!!!!

The Part of Fox That Disney Didn’t Buy Could Buy WWE

A new report from Dave Meltzer’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter claims not only that WWE could be looking at moving its TV deal to Fox from NBC, which owns the USA Network, but that the company could even buy WWE outright. According to the report, WWE executive Triple H has already had meetings with Fox about the move, which would see WWE replace UFC is UFC does not renew their deal with Fox. Under the rumored new deal, Fox’s broadcast network would air a two-hour WWE Raw, with Smackdown Live airing on FS1, and more wrestling content being produced to fill up more time usually filled by stuff like UFC’s Best Knockouts that’s constantly airing on the Fox Sports networks.

The report also speculates that Fox could purchase WWE in its entirety in order to avoid having to constantly renegotiate TV deals. Fox has a buttload of money due to Disney buying most of 21st Century Fox’s assets, though the TV network, Fox News, and main sports networks would remain a separate company.

Of course, though Meltzer’s words are often treated as gospel in the pro wrestling community, it’s worth noting that beyond the reports of Triple H meeting with Fox, this is mostly speculation on Meltzer’s part and may not actually come to fruition. In fact, Meltzer doesn’t even take original credit for the speculation, writing, ” there has been a lot of speculation in and out of media,” and hedging that the talks are “clearly as preliminary as it could be.” Still, it’s almost too good to be true to imagine a two-hour Monday Night Raw and a WWE not run by Vince McMahon, though we have to assume any deal would include a “make Roman look strong” clause in the contract.

Meltzer says that the deal will become less likely if UFC does re-sign with Fox, though that deal hasn’t happened yet. WWE’s current TV deal won’t expire until 2019.

> Should New Japan Pro Wrestling Challenge WWE ???

Is it the time for New Japan Pro Wrestling to challenge WWE ????  With the Kenny Omega Vs. Chris Jericho match getting a lot of buzz from the wrestling world, I think its time for the WWE to have some competition and I think New Japan is the one that could at least try to compete with the all mighty WWE.

Now I don’t see New Japan getting as big as WWE, but they could compete as a alternative and maybe hook up with other indy promotions like ROH and such and create a formidable competitor for WWE. I would think a up and coming cable channel or maybe HULU could get a deal to broadcast NJPW. A channel like Vice or some other channel would be a great push for NJPW. Although they are on Axs tv its very limited in viewership.

When wrestling companies compete the winners are the wrestling fans, just take the old Monday Night Wars when WCW battled WWF, we got amazing wrestling and now its part of history. I think its time for a lil wrestling war again to bring back the fans and the action and make WWE a little more hard hitting like New Japan Wrestling.

With Wrestlekingdom gaining popularity in the states with the Omega Vs. Jericho match, I hope the minds that be at NJPW decide to do more shows in the USA and bring a war back to the wrestling world….Time will tell if this happens, but I hope we see a lot more from NJPW in 2018 and beyond……
