In the revival of Twin Peaks, David Lynch and Mark Frost critique our nostalgia. Season 3 looks inward at what revival is, and why we’re so eager to return to past shows we loved
A new report from Dave Meltzer’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter claims not only that WWE could be looking at moving its TV deal to Fox from NBC, which owns the USA Network, but that the company could even buy WWE outright. According to the report, WWE executive Triple H has already had meetings with Fox about the move, which would see WWE replace UFC is UFC does not renew their deal with Fox. Under the rumored new deal, Fox’s broadcast network would air a two-hour WWE Raw, with Smackdown Live airing on FS1, and more wrestling content being produced to fill up more time usually filled by stuff like UFC’s Best Knockouts that’s constantly airing on the Fox Sports networks.
The report also speculates that Fox could purchase WWE in its entirety in order to avoid having to constantly renegotiate TV deals. Fox has a buttload of money due to Disney buying most of 21st Century Fox’s assets, though the TV network, Fox News, and main sports networks would remain a separate company.
Of course, though Meltzer’s words are often treated as gospel in the pro wrestling community, it’s worth noting that beyond the reports of Triple H meeting with Fox, this is mostly speculation on Meltzer’s part and may not actually come to fruition. In fact, Meltzer doesn’t even take original credit for the speculation, writing, ” there has been a lot of speculation in and out of media,” and hedging that the talks are “clearly as preliminary as it could be.” Still, it’s almost too good to be true to imagine a two-hour Monday Night Raw and a WWE not run by Vince McMahon, though we have to assume any deal would include a “make Roman look strong” clause in the contract.
Meltzer says that the deal will become less likely if UFC does re-sign with Fox, though that deal hasn’t happened yet. WWE’s current TV deal won’t expire until 2019.

Is it the time for New Japan Pro Wrestling to challenge WWE ???? With the Kenny Omega Vs. Chris Jericho match getting a lot of buzz from the wrestling world, I think its time for the WWE to have some competition and I think New Japan is the one that could at least try to compete with the all mighty WWE.
Now I don’t see New Japan getting as big as WWE, but they could compete as a alternative and maybe hook up with other indy promotions like ROH and such and create a formidable competitor for WWE. I would think a up and coming cable channel or maybe HULU could get a deal to broadcast NJPW. A channel like Vice or some other channel would be a great push for NJPW. Although they are on Axs tv its very limited in viewership.
When wrestling companies compete the winners are the wrestling fans, just take the old Monday Night Wars when WCW battled WWF, we got amazing wrestling and now its part of history. I think its time for a lil wrestling war again to bring back the fans and the action and make WWE a little more hard hitting like New Japan Wrestling.
With Wrestlekingdom gaining popularity in the states with the Omega Vs. Jericho match, I hope the minds that be at NJPW decide to do more shows in the USA and bring a war back to the wrestling world….Time will tell if this happens, but I hope we see a lot more from NJPW in 2018 and beyond……
Fun fact: Back in the early 80s the first #nes game was going to be a Popeye’s game where Popeye was out to safe Olive from Brutus, Nintendo couldn’t get the character’s legal permissions in time for the game deadline so Shigeru Miyamoto covered the visuals with his improvised art. Thus the first look of Mario was born as “Jumpman”, Donkey Kong and Princes Peach consequently as well.
